LORETO'S LITTLE CHURCH   And now, after having visited the sister churches of the town, we contemplate the remote and eccentric church of Our Lady of Loreto situated in the suburbs of Mirto It is said that in1550 a vessel, off shore the Tyrrhenian Sea, was at the mercy of the waves, tossed by a violent storm. The captain of the vessel, even if agnostic, vowed to erect a little sanctuary to the Virgin of Loreto if his crew and he had escaped from the storm. And so, as he promised, he erected the nice little church dedicated to Our Lady. *** The church, located on the top of a hill, overlooks the country, the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Aeolian Islands, the Fitalia River that flows at its foot, the Nebrodi Mountains, the suggestive view of the town.
